Debuting with the famous song "Video Killed the Radio Star" by the Buggles, it became the most successful music television service to ever air! In 1981 MTV made an impact by launching its debut off with an actual launch. The footage shown was the Apollo 11 space launch, and a voiceover proclaimed, "Ladies and gentlemen, rock and roll," and with that, MTV was born. In 1984, MTV decided to recognize its roots by making the Moonman its awards trophy, one of the most coveted trophies an artist can receive.
